The Pick exhibition were founded at the end of the 1970'ies by the workers of the Maros Street Pick Salami Factory and the weighing and packing team of Mrs. Mihály Molnár.
Firstly unused knives, tools, wooden objects and other devices had been collected, but later more and more documents, video and audio recordings were listed among the items. Recordings contain the recollections of the former workers of the factory.
In 1998 the Szeged Paprika Stock Company became part of the Pick Group, and as a result the exhibition was supplemented by the Szeged Paprika Museum and found home in the Pick Leasure Centre in a 2-storeyed building of 330 square metres.
The ground floor presents the history of the salami and the factory, the first floor presents the history of the paprika of Szeged. Besides the objects, photographs, documents, and 21 puppets faithfully dressed make the subject more interesting to the visitors.
In the Pick collection visitors can review the history of salami production right from the beginning (1869) up to now. On the first floor visitors can learn about the products and the technologies used by the Szeged Paprika Stock Company.
In the Pick hall visitors can watch a 12 minute video about the members of the Pick Group. A 40 minute video can be seen in the paprika's exhibition hall, presenting the planting, processing and selling of the paprika.
In return to their fee visitors will get a postcard and piece of salami samples to taste. Postcards addressed will be posted by the company to any countries of the world.
The exhibition was opened on 1st March 2000. Visitors are coming from all parts of the country and from abroad, too. I 2001 we won the certificate of the proposal entitled "The year of the museum 2000". In 2007 we had more than 60 thousand visitors throughout the year.
On hearing the name Szeged many people will straight away think of the Pick Salami and the paprika we cultivate here. These two historical products connect to one another more than many people think. The founder of the factory, Márk Pick himself produced salami and run a paprika mill as well. We are proud of the privilege to present the history of these two real unicums of Szeged in the same place. The influence of the one is strengthening the other.
